What is the role of religion in our school?
As an assignment for our chapter about public opinion, we were to create a question and perform our own public opinion poll. Working as partners, we polled a sample from our school and community in order to learn more about their opinions on a certain issue.
Together, we came up with the following questions:
1. How do you feel about the role religion plays in school?
A) Too Much B) Not Enough C) Just Right
2. How religious would you consider yourself?
On a scale of 1-5 with 1 being not religious at all and 5 being very religious, with an option of 0 for those who prefer not to answer.
Our results were as follows:
1. How do you feel about the role religion plays in school?

2. How religious would you consider yourself?
On a scale of 1-5 with 1 being not religious at all and 5 being very religious, with an option of 0 for those who prefer not to answer.
Our results were as follows:
These graphs show the correlation of the two questions.
We were curious to see how a person's answer to the first question was possibly influenced by their level of religiosity.
We were curious to see how a person's answer to the first question was possibly influenced by their level of religiosity.
Those who thought religion had too much play in our school were typically less religious than those who though we needed more religious influence, as expected. Naturally, those who were in the middle, who thought it was just right, were typically in the middle of the religiosity scale.
We had a sample of 140 people.
*DISCLAIMER: As we live in an ultra-conservative area with a majority of the people being christian and all of the people in our sample were exclusively from this area, our sampling error cannot be calculated. Our samples were not chosen as carefully as those in a national opinion poll. They were chosen by the two of us instead of a company full of people qualified to do this. Please, take these results with a grain of salt.
